Mitch Vargas

I predicted mistaken in my previous evaluation of the fight. Sort of. I did say that Wanderlei would personal the mid vary of punching. He did not do that, however Rampage did.

If you’ve learn my previous article on Wanderlei vs Rampage then you’ll bear in mind Rampage has brief punches and is a mid vary fighter. (That means, that Rampage likes to be in a spread where all kicks are ineffective because they are too close and could be muffled by the proximity and also in a variety that will be too shut for many absolutely prolonged jabs and crosses). He owned the mid vary in this battle (it only occurred as soon as, and Rampage made most of it). Whereas Wanderlei was swinging like a madman (which he made a technical error during, extra on this later) Rampage threw a short left hook and knocked Wanderlei out.

Listed below are the issues that Wanderlei had on this battle:

Like his Liddell combat, he tried to box Rampage method an excessive amount of (let Wanderlei be who he is, a Muay Thai fighter, and you’d have seen different outcomes)He was too pensive (he needed the Thai clinch, but he was too content to trade with Rampage)The major technical error Wanderlei made was dropping his fingers to throw his bombs. That’s Rampage caught him with the hook, Wanderlei couldn’t raise his hands up to muffle or block the shot, and it was aimed completely for the knock out (a Frank Shamrock principal that I teach my students known as the “button principle” explains this).

So what Wanderlei needs to do, when he gets again is: 1. do not hearken to the trainers who inform him that he must box the opposite fighter (your not a boxer you are a Muay Thai professional), maintain his palms up whereas throwing his vicious leather-based, and cease being too pensive. He must be outdated Wanderlei, and be the aggressive killer he always has been. Briefly, Wanderlei needs to be Wanderlei and stop attempting to be a boxer. If Wanderlei can do this, then he is a power to be reckoned with.
