There have been so many nice winners of the Heisman Trophy. Jay Berwanger was the first winner. My three private favorites follow.
1. Roger Staubauch. Roger was a very intelligent younger man who acquired an appointment to the Naval Academy. He was an excellent quarterback at a school that is not actually a football power a lot of the time. He had the stats and wins to win the Heisman Trophy and was and remains to be an ideal American. When Roger graduated from Annapolis, he didn’t get to go on to the pros. He served his country in the Navy for five years and spent his time in Viet Nam. After getting out of the Navy, Roger went on to be a Tremendous Bowl profitable quarterback with America’s Team. the Dallas Cowboys. After his football days Roger went on to form the Staubauch Compsny which dealt in commercial real estate. Roger retired because the CEO of the billion dollar business just a few years ago.
2.. Earl Campbell The Tyler Rose was probably one of the best full backs to ever wrap his arms around a football. When he obtained up a head of steam, he was literally unstoppable. He had an amazing profession on the U. of Texas and won the Heisman. He went on to have an awesome profession with the Houston Oilers which was always one among my favourite teams. “LOVE YA BLUE” Bum Phillips was an important coach and he liked Earl Campbell. Earl now owns Earl Campbell Meat Products and is quite successful. He was Rookie of the 12 months and MVP both his first year in the pros.
3. Charlie Ward. Charlie is among the few Heisman Trophy winners that was drafted in three sports. He performed only two years as starting quarterback at Florida State but in his senior year he led the team to the National Championship. There have been so many good athletes that have earned the coveted Heisman trophies however these are my favorites.A few of them went on to have brilliant professional carrers and a few f them form of had the “Heisman Jinks” Most all of them have been successful in their chosen fields.
