The last couple weeks are tangled up with debate of whether the Eagles Michael Vick will end up the everlasting starter. From currently on, Vick is the starting quarterback. After an injury to beginning QB Kevin Kolb, Vick became the starter. At that point, the question was whether Vick had what it took to be a top flight QB anymore. Vick ultimately left the proof in the pudding, putting in amazing performances towards the Green Bay Packers and also the Detroit Lions. Reid, the Eagles coach, had a conundrum. Ultimately, he chose Michael Vick as the beginning quarterback.
Victory in Detroit
The Packers viciously sacked starter Kevin Kolb in the season opener, leaving him with a concussion and Vick in charge for the game towards the Detroit Lions. Vick took over and put on an inspired performance that nearly culminated in a victory. He was left in the driver’s seat for the September 19 game towards the Detroit Lions. Vick had 284 yards passing with two touchdowns, according to Sports Illustrated. Vick also recorded over 30 yards rushing, as he still can scramble like crazy. The Lions fought to win the game late, but the end result was a 35 to 32 victory to the Eagles.
Seeing Reid
At that point, Eagles coach nevertheless insisted Kolb was the starter. Reid had said Kolb was back in as soon as he was cleared medically. However, Reid changed his mind and named Vick the starter and is benching Kolb. To be fair, there have been troubles with the offensive line. Vick is known for his ability to get away from defenses. Kolb is a promising skill, however the choice likely has anything to do with how well Vick is doing than anything else. However, the future of Kolb in Philly is academic. Vick will be the starter against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Long street to redemption
Vick had a significant fall off the path with a conviction for dog fighting and an 18 month stretch in prison. In 2009, Vick was hired by the Eagles and never had more than a series of play, until now. Michael Vick has never been known as the greatest passer, but his ability to scramble drew comparisons with Steve Young, legendary quarterback for the 49ers.
