Fox Sports Houston’s farewell to the Astros and signoff (October 3rd, 2012)

In 1983, Home Sports Entertainment (HSE), and later it’s successor Fox Sports Houston, had the privilege to present Houston Astros baseball to the fans. The network concluded its nearly 30-year run with the team on October 3rd, 2012 under a number of bittersweet circumstances for both the network and the ballclub. The Astros fell to the Chicago Cubs 5-4 to finish the season with the worst record in Major League Baseball at 55-107, this was also the team’s final game in the National League as they move to the American League next season, that’s when the Astros will begin a new broadcast relationship with Comcast SportsNet. Also, this was the last game for Hall of Fame radio broadcaster Milo Hamilton, who officially said goodbye to the broadcast booth after a memorable six-decade run as baseball broadcaster. It was also bittersweet for the men and women who work for the network as Fox Sports Houston will be absorbed into Fox Sports Southwest, which will likely result in some job cuts. The network will continue to air in the Houston area. In this video, Greg Lucas, who became the network’s first play-by-play broadcaster, delivered an emotional signoff by offering a unique perspective on the network’s history of covering Houston-area sports through the years. Lucas will not continue working with Fox and it is currently unclear if he and Astros play-by-play man Bill Brown will move to Comcast next year. All Copyrights are Acknowledged!!!
